Join Award-Winning Poet Douglas Cole for a Reading at Village Books

Village Books is thrilled to welcome acclaimed poet Douglas Cole for a special reading of his latest collection, The Cabin at the End of the World, on Friday, January 10 at 6pm. This event offers a rare opportunity to hear one of today’s most captivating poetic voices share work that invites readers on an unforgettable journey into the depths of human experience and nature.

The Cabin at the End of the World has been widely praised for its evocative language and profound exploration of life’s mysteries. With clear, imagistic precision, Cole delves into the tension between the urban moment and the natural world, leading readers to contemplate the complexities of existence. As poet Jose Hernandez Diaz notes, Cole “paints with an imagist’s clarity, a minimalist’s precision, and a poet’s sense of Duende,” making this collection a truly spellbinding experience.

In the words of Peter Mladinic, Cole takes readers on a journey into the forest, into the self, with “more questions than answers,” encouraging deep reflection. His prose poems are fragmentary and dreamlike, inspired by the likes of Baudelaire and Claudia Rankine, while simultaneously weaving modern elements of surrealism and grit.

Douglas Cole’s work has earned him numerous accolades, including the American Fiction Award and multiple Pushcart nominations. His writing has been featured in Beloit Poetry Journal, Fiction International, Valparaiso, and The Galway Review, among many other literary journals. His talents extend to screenwriting, with his screenplay for The White Field winning the Best Unproduced Screenplay Award at the Elegant Film Festival.

Don’t miss your chance to experience this intimate evening with a poet who masterfully blends language, imagery, and emotional resonance. Whether you're a seasoned poetry lover or new to the genre, Douglas Cole’s reading promises to leave a lasting impression.
